OK BOB I will fill you in on what I can remember 56 years ago..

I was station in Bremerhaven Germany at the WWII german officers trainning school were we had a ship to shore radio station(NGB). The Weser River Patrol was assign to send 2 patrol boats to Kiel Germany in the summer of 1956 to meet the Russians who were returning some lend lease WWII PT Boats. I was assign to go as the radio operator. I do not remember just how many their were, 30 or 40 or more and the boats were in bad shape except for the 50cal and 40mm guns along with the radio equipment (TCS TRANSCEIVERS). Some of the spare parts were still packed in WWII packing. A second trip was made about a month later. You could tell that the boats were stored outside so they were stripped of anything worth keeping and destroyed. However 6 or 8 of the best were towed to Bremerhaven by the German LSU B (Labor Service Unit) and one was fixed up for the Captain of the base as I was assign again as a RM for its first run to the North Sea.If you have any more question shot me a e-mail....Later

Thanks Robert, nice photo. Those boats did look a little worse for the wear. Now that we know what happened to most of the boats (except maybe the Captain's) I wonder if the spare parts were eventually shipped back to the states as surplus? It would be nice to have them 'show up' after so many years.
