A friend of mine is assisting an skipper of a PT boat during WWII. His name is Dwight Smith, he is about 91 now and living in a assisted living facility in Vero Beach, FL. She is trying to get any information about boats he was on. Apparently he operated around New Guinea and the Philippines. His memory is not quite what it once was but, not bad.
Thanks

The book Knights of the Sea shows a Dwight A Smith Jr., but no boat or Ron number. Hope someone else can help more. Welcome to the message board.

Thanks for the information Gary. I'm not really a new member, I just haven't posted in quite a while and must have lost my member status.
A coupe of years ago several members of this forum were quite helpful in getting information about my wife's uncle, Donald Stockwell, who was KIA on PT320.

Hi Alan,
Thanks for posting this, I will be hoping to hear how your visit goes.
My father in law was in Ron 9 on PT156 as a Gunners Mate.
I have been trying to gather information on his service and I find your posting very exciting. I just cherish the memories of these men now.
Keep us posted.
Regards, Julie

Hello Alan, I found an article about Lt (jg) Dwight Smith that was written in a Spartanburg, SC newspaper of 3 Oct 1944. It has to do with a sea rescue of a Liberator bomber crew off of Morotai. E-mail me (click on the above icon) and I'll forward the article.

Randy, thanks so much for locating the article about Lt. Smith. When I first started looking for information about him I did the usual google search and found that story about him and his crew and their rescue of the Liberators flight crew. When we read the story to him (his eye sight is not too good) he said "Oh yeah I remember that, they were really glad to see us."
Thanks for your effort Randy.

Alan, I will be in Vero Beach at the end of August for a week visiting some high school friends. Would like to visit him and just shake his hand for a job "Well done" I did not get to do this for my relatives who were in the "Big one". Would it be proper/OK to Email me the address where he is located? Thanks
