Charles Eugene Farrar lost his battle with cancer this Memorial Day He was a great man who served his country well. A member of RON 2, 3, and 40 he served most of his time based on Tulagi as an electrician for the PT Boat fleet.

He will be greatly missed...

My sincere condolences to you and your family. My father-in-law was also in Ron-2 at Tulagi. It leaves a large void when they are gone. Thank God for their service.

So sorry to hear of this loss. It is always a tough thing when we lose one of our PT BOAT VETERANS. May he rest in Peace, and may you feel good knowing that he is once again fixing those boats, this time in heaven.

Sorry to hear of your loss. However, what a wonderful day the lord chose to recall him, Memorial Day! He is once again a young man standing on Government Wharf, renewing old friendships with his shipmates in RON 2 and RON 3(2).

gtdiesel;

FYI
If you don't already have a copy, go on ebay an get a copy of "Long Were The Nights" by Hugh B. Cave. I was just looking through my copy and your Grandfather is listed in the back as a member of the base force: Charles E. Farrar, Electrician's Mate, 3rd Class, Ingleside, West Virginia. Just above his name is that of his LPO(supervisor); Thomas A. Dufresne, Electrician's Mate 1st Class, missoula, Montana.
Take care,
TED

Thank you.... I have a couple copies of that book. He had told me stories about when the guy was writing the book as well as a few whoppers about the fellow who was the 1st Class Electrician at the time.

After my grandfather reached 1st class on Tulagi as Base Force, he transferred to the Acontius PT Tender ending up as a Chief Petty Officer.

We are definately very proud of him...
