On my previous question about when was the mug shot taken, the response was that probably at boot camp.
As I put things in order for the scrap book to go to the photo book company, I still have a problem with this placement.

I am hoping the photo below turns out. I scanned his mug shot and the Farragut photo side by side.
He looks so young and innocent in the Farragut photo.
Not so much in the mug shot.
Longer hair, looks older and not so innocent.
Could have been the moment it was taken.
Just double checking with you guy's before I put it in the beggining of the book.
He was sent to Melville after he was in the South Pacific.
Would Melville have taken mug shots and finger prints?

All major commands had the capability to take ID photos. it could have been taken at Melville after his time in the Pacific. The ID cards did not have rates or ranks on them so he wouldn't have gotten one as he advanced. But after some time, particularly in the Pacific with the heat and humidity, things get worn out and need to be replaced.

Charlie,
Thank you for that information, What do you think of the two photo's?
Do you think the mug shot was later?
Could it have been just a stern face of the same young man at Farragut recieving?

The photo on the right was taken at The Naval Training Center. Notice he is clean shaven with military hair cut. Now, the photo on the left shows him with a much fuller head of hair, as most boys would have had before heading out to NTS School. Tough to say, because as Charlie mentions, each place had the ability to take photo's. This could be before NTC School, or possibly at Melville.

Frank,
Before NTS?
Maybe this was taken at the enlistment station in Minneapolis?
Does the lines in the background mean anything to anyone?

Julie,
From some mug shots I have seen many have a height chart in the background. Measured in inches.

Here's a sample of a WWII era USN id card. You can see the height markings. This is pretty much standard.

Look at the name??????? Frank? is that you?

Julie,

Those two photos almost look like two different guys ! I wonder how much time passed between the two ?

Charlie, you must have been waiting for just the right time to spring that on Frank. Nice job.
