Thank you to all:

I think I will still put this in my fathers day gift scrap book to my husband.
It is about his fathers service on the 156 - Gunners Mate. He was on the 37mm. during 1944
It will show what he probably knew could happen to him.

Does anyone have an idea about where the 156 would have been at this time?
Would this have been something my father in-law would have seen, say the morning after at base camp?
Would the guy's have known each other?

My research shows my father in law at Morotai island in Sept. '44
I dont know where he was in Oct.

I think Ron 9 was transferred to the Southwest Pacific right around 1944. At that time they operated out of Mios Woendi, Dutch New Guinea, Morotai, then to Philippines. PT-152, which was the boat hit with 4.7 inch shell, was operating with Ron 12 at the time, but I am not sure if Ron 12 and Ron 9 operated in the area together. I know that Ron 7 and Ron 12 did some work together....................

Julie;
During the engagement where PT 152 RON 12 was damaged(24-25 Oct 1944) these were the Squadrons involved: The 45 PT's included: Squadron 7 (9 PT's), Lt. Comdr. Robert Leeson, USNR; Squadron 12 (10 PT's), Lt. Weston C. Pullen, Jr., USNR; Squadron 21 (11 PT's), Lt. Carl T. Gleason; Squadron 33 (10 PT's), Lt. A. Murray Preston, USNR; Squadron 36 (5 PT's), Lt. Comdr. Francis D. Tappaan, USNR.

As for RON 9, they were based at Morotai from September 15, 1944-10 Feburary 1945. Then they moved to Zamboanga(March-May 1945) and later Tawi Tawi (23 May 1945). When the war ended they were moved up to Samar, for decommissioning.
Take care,
TED
