As I am putting this scrap book of my father- in-laws PT Boat time in order. I was wondering if anyone could tell me when the finger prints and head only mug shot I got from the National Records would have been taken?
He enlisted in Minneapolis, sent to Farragut,
The mug shot looks like he was mad or very concerned,
He looks older than the very young innocent Farragut photo's.
But I would think the photo's and finger prints would have been taken early on. Any one know when they would have taken those?

If not mistaken, the first thing he would have done was to head to the Induction center. This was where selected Navy men were received by the local boards. Here, the accept, or reject the selections, so an on site physical and have the oath completed. I know when I went to my local induction center in 1975, I remember we did not stay long here, and no photographs were taken.

The next phase would probably have been the Reception Centers, which once might expect to remain for about 2 weeks. They give out records, classifications, testing, equipment, and conduct interviews. I would bet after this he would have been forwarded to some tactical unit, or boot camp. The photo or mug shot you refer to was probably taken at the reception center, or possibly boot camp. I hope some of our WWII PT BOAT VETS jump in here in case I am off base.

I agree Frank. Probably taken at Boot Camp. But, if he had lost it or it became damaged, he could have had a new one done. As far a the look, you weren't supposed to smile or anyting for the picture so that is probably why he looks stern. Or maybe he was mad about something.

I have a few in my Exhibit and believe me no one is smiling, they look serious, so I am guessing they all might be like this. I don't think they wanted them to smile for this type of photo.
