I'm in the process of backdating my 596 kit. It is a much bigger task than barginned for but I an learning a lot. look at some of my other posts here and on Fine scale modeler (oldmodeler).
The 596 has all the late features like the rearset starboard gun turret, canted turrets, late model 37mm and mount, raft mount on chart cabin roof, late navigation light locations, SO3 radar and mast, late style roll-off racks, late style deck vents, late style throttle locations and probably some that I have forgotten but these are the big ones.
This is some information Al Ross posted for me.
"Now that the Italeri PT 596 kit is getting into modelers' hands, a number of recurring questions are popping up on the various forums, most dealing with kit-bashing. For those of you building this kit, the following may be of use:
1. The basic superstructure configuration of the Italeri kit applies to boats in the 372-383, 486-563, and 565-624 groups. Boats in this series seeing action included:
RON 27 (PT 372-377) - South Pacific
RON 28 (PT 378-383, 546-551) - South Pacific
RON 29 (PT 552-563) - Mediterranean
RON 33 (PT 488-497) - SW Pacific
RON 34 (PT 498-509) - English Channel
RON 35 (PT 510-521) - English Channel
RON 36 (PT 522-532) - SW Pacific
RON 37 (PT 533-544) - SW Pacific
RON 38 (PT 565-576) - SW Pacific
Refer to: Bulkley, Robert. At Close Quarters. (Washington, DC: GPO. 1962) for more detailed information on these squadrons.
2. The armament configuration of the Italeri kit is only suitable for some Pacific ELCOs and possibly a few of this series assigned to RON 4, the training squadron at Melville, RI. Photos of RON 37 boats, for instance, show them with a 37mm forward, but it is not the conical mount fitted to 565 on; rather, it is the modified 20mm tripod mount. Some, if not all, of the RON 37 boats also had an additional 20mm MK14 offset to starboard forward.
The European ELCOs were usually more lightly armed and the 37mm was seldom fitted, although I have seen contemporary news footage showing it fitted to 509, 515, 517, and 519 in place of the normal 20mm on the bow to port."
Hope this helps,
Ed

There are photos in the Squadron PT book and in Chun's and Ross' book Vol 2.

Sir,
If you want to do the Italeri kit in the Adaptor Scheme, then, you do have some HEAVY DUTY back-dating of the kit to get it back to the first production series of the 103 Class (and the boats of Ron 10) that wore that scheme. That would require scratchbuilding nearly everything above the deck level and adding four torpedo tubes and substituting the 40mm gun with a 20mm on a Mk. IV mount and deleting both guns on the foredeck as well as the Mk.50 rocket launchers and their storage bins.
If you don't mind doing all of that work, then, could I suggest that you have it depict PT-174 that had a shielded 40mm gun on the foredeck coming from the factory. That would help you in the manner of allowing you to still use the kit's 40mm and also, you'll end up with a very interesting looking model.

Garth is 100% correct. My 495 back-date is a mouthful and it can use all the superstructure, torpedoes and most of the big stuff.
If i was doing it again I might think harder about the Ron 29 (in the Med) boats.
Though I must admit I've learned a lot from the 495 build and the people I've met on-line so when it is done I'll be glad i chose it.

Hello thank you for the response about the zebra scheme.
I agree there is a lot of work to due just too backdate to the 103 series of boat. Yes I was looking at doing the PT 174 as it's gun arrangement looked a little more interesting. Any photo's or information on either the scheme or PT174 would be very helpful. It can be sent to me at my e-mail address nicola.shaun@tesco.net

So much excitement over this new Kit has prompted me to jump on the bandwagon and purchase this Kit. Now the big question. I have seen the Kit on Ebay for $129.00 plus Shipping, and $149.00 plus shipping, and one more for $119.00 plus shipping. Is this the norm for the price of this Kit, and where is the best place and price to buy it? I will purchase it today if there is a place that excepts PAYPAL. Thanks very much...........
