I thought that I would share my 1944 model built right form the box. Stan Pienkowsi built it for me, and I was lucky that the kit I had contained all of the parts needed. I decided to build it using no after-market parts at all. Looks just like it did in 1944. Still one of my favorite little models. Sits in my home office, where I can see it everyday.

Frank,
When i was in high school during WW II, I built my first PT boat model, which happened
to be the Varney kit made out of wood.. A friend of mine sprayed the finished model the
same color as yours. It looked pretty good. With all the moving I lost it.( See AMERICAN
PT BOAT IN WW II, VOL I page 157 for picture of model by David Pappmeier).

Vic

I know, I think it's a great little model for the time period. I bet it was expensive in those days to have your Dad buy you one of those. I choose to do this one straight from the box to show folks how it might have looked in 1944.

I think this model looks better in some ways than the Lindberg 1/32 scale one does. This fore and aft decks look to be in better proportion. The rudders look much more like PT boat rudders than the Lindberg do.

Frank.

How many rudders and props are on this model?

Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate it and cheers to all. Peter

Actually, I should have just said "The Lindberg 1/64th scale kit's daddy."

The Lindberg 1/64th scale plastic PT kit is a spot-on-dead-ringer for the Varney wooden kit.

Mine has the standard three-prop three-rudder config. Slightly later version with racks instead of tubes, but still the basic Varney model.

Will is correct, my Varney Kit has three props and three rudders. I have been trying to locate the kit that has the depth charges, but no such luck................
