A buddy of mine is a faithful watcher and was excited to see an episode that aired recently from Pittsburgh, which is in our home state. He has browsed through the site I made for my grandfather, so when he saw this segment he said "hey, I know that squadron!":

So I of course, after watching, called Steve Nugent to talk about the collection and the possible identity of the PT Boat captain who owned it all. Steve's iron memory sorted out the most likely candidate in about five minutes with only seeing the last 30 seconds of the segment and me describing the rest of it over the phone. His guess was Lt. John (Jack) "Milo" Torrence of PT 208. I went back and did some screen captures and sure enough, on the back of the jacket was the boat numbered "208" - pretty cool!

What do you think about the values? I think they're high, but I guess everything is worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it. Frank, if you went on Antiques Roadshow, I bet they'd certify you as being a multi-millionaire!

I'd agree the prices are a little steep, but I guess it's always in the eye of the beholder.

GO FOR IT FRANKIE!

Steve & Will

I was watching this the other day, and I was shocked when the guy gave his prices. I think he is way out of line. I have the exact jacket with Ron 22 patch which was valued last year at 1,500.00 by two reputable Military dealers in my area. Your right Steve, at his prices, if I was to sell everything, I could retire on my own Island. An old time collector once told me that your collectibles are only worth what someone is willing to buy them for. A few nice items, but not worth $8,000. You should have bought them for me Will....................

Guys,

I think we all need to buy safes ! Wow, what prices.

The only officer I could think of who lived in the Pittsburg area was Jack 'Milo' Torrence. Over a year ago I'd met with one of his sons, Jack Jr., who lived less than an hour away from me. I tried to get in touch with him today, but no luck. I do feel reasonably sure that the man on the 'Roadshow' is Milo's other son William. Here are a couple photos of Milo.

The crew photo of the 208, shows him on the far left, middle row. he had been the Exec. Officer on the 208 under Ed DuBose. The other shows him on the far right ( with maybe the same jacket on ) with other Ron 15 officers and a British Officer on the left.

One thing I found interesting was the direction the Ron 15 Dragon was facing. The one in our families possession faces the other direction. Makes sense if they were mounted on each side of the bridge, but I've never seen a photo of a Ron 15 boat that showed the insignia anywhere.

Thanks to Jim and Ted for sending me clips of the show.

Steve

I think it was pretty nice to see this clip. wish it had taken place a few years earlier. We should encourage more of this type of positive exposure too. Thankyou also for sharing it with the rest of us . Some I am sure missed it live. Very glad to have seen it. Cheers, B.J.
