Forward part of boat supported.

Forefoot being fitted. Notice all stringers have been added to or repaired and are solid fore to aft.

Fitting the stem. I believe this is from the 659.

With knee added.

Fitting the port sheer.

Gluing up the starboard sheer.

After the sheers are scarfed in, we will start on the forward chines. The side hull ribs have been replaced or repaired from the transom to about frame #20. Hull ribs to about 30 and deck ribs to about 28. All stringers, hull and deck have been repaired or replaced completely.

Hi Bob,
Wow! First of all I want to thank you for posting all these pictures! They really give us insight to how you guys are doing. It also makes me feel like I have been taking for granted all this work that was done way back long ago by the workers at the Higgins Factory! I am going to go down into the ForePeak (Bosuns Locker) of the PT658 just to admire the "knee" of the stem and all of the woodwork inside there. I never realized that piece was constructed in that way before seeing your photo that you posted. Quite the beautiful joinery work I might add! Good Job and keep up the great work you guys are doing! Jerry PT658 Portland OR

PS From the lessons we learned doing the 658 boat, you guys may want to think about preserving the exposed wood of the frame/keel/ribs with that Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer (CPES: brand name Smith's or similar) that will prevent the formation of rot for many years into the future. Also you may want to apply interior white paint while it is nice and accessable before planking the bow. If you wait and paint these parts after the planking is installed, some parts will not be able to be reached.

Thanks Ted and Jerry. Reminds me of these,

There are approxamately 19,000 #14 and #16 21/2" bronze frearson screws for just the planking and 38,000 planking rivets. Even though this worker is using the first generation cordless driver, I think that we will use something with more power.
