Hello
Quick question for which I hope someone on here can help.
What Vehicle's did the USN use during WW2 to Transport Torpedo's
to the dock/boats with.
I've decided to use the spare Torpedo's that I've got left from when I built My PT174 & thought I'd use a vehicle.
Any Pic's would be even better than just info.
Thanks in advance .
Shaun

Shaun: On pages 82 and 93 in Frank Andruss book "PT Boats behind the Scenes" are pictures of the 4 wheeled torpedo carts we used to move the torpedos from the torpedo shack to the dock.

Hi Shaun, I went to the National Archives last May and took these photos. They show a couple of different carts used in Rendova and at Mios Woendi. The one at Mios Woendi is the "torpedo dump" which I think may be similar to Franks book picture. We also have a heavy duty 2 big wheels and 2 little wheels hand cart at the PT658. I will try to find a photo of it and post it later. I hope this helps. Jerry

Rendova Self propelled Torpedo cart with Mark 8 torpedo (notice the driver sitting at the controls?)
Rendova docks loading Mark 8 onto Ted Berlins PT167, Notice rectangular wheeled dolly (possibly engine cradle?) on dock below torpedo. Maybe it is a torpedo cart?
These next three are of the PT658 torpedo truck at the Portland Navy Reserve Base

Hello
Thanks for the fast response. Not what Transport I was thinking of, My fault I should have said for Transportation from the Factory to the dock area's. Eg what type of Truck wa used. GMC, Ford, Chevrolet & what style of truck.
Have to say that the Pic of the Transporter with the Driver sitting in it looks an interesting idea so I might have a go at that .
Great Pic's
Thanks again.
