I just recieved the new Italeri 1/35th scale 80 foot Elco model, and it is truely a work of art!
It is by far the best model of a PT boat available in an injection molded kit.
The model represents a late Elco woth 40mm Bofors, 37mm, rocket launchers, and roll off racks for Mk XIII torpedoes.
Italeri has also included a nice sheet of photoetched brass for detail parts such as torpedo fins, and the metal plate on the bow, the 37mm feed chute and much more.
Also a nice addition is a photographic reference on the type, but anyone building one will want to rely on more extensive reference material.
It goes for between $99 and $125 depending on where you order it, but it is well worth the price!
It will be interesting to see what after market manufacturers produce for the model- perhaps a Thunderbolt gun?

Yeah, really is a nice kit, so nice in fact I got two. I've been collecting references and accessories so I can do a good job of the two, both should be at the UK IPMS show at Telford in November this year.

Since we're spending some money here check out this .50 cal ammo and belts from Mission Models. Yes, this is 1:35 scale brass ammo. The supplied ammo belts in the kit are weak at best. There are some photo etch out there (Verlinden for example) but none compare in quality to this. The down side is that I think it would cost over $100 to arm you 4 .50's. That's not even taking into consideration loading the trays. I would suggest canvas covers for the trays if you decide to take the plunge. Enjoy and watch out for the carpet monster! I hope the mission model guys don't mind me using their photo.

I've ordered mine and it should be in next week. I can't wait to get my hands on it! I had the lindburg kit and I've also been collecting references for years. I try to make my kits different than straight out of the box. I really build for myself and if someone else like it, that's just icing on the cake.
