Stan has been doing some work on the restoration as time permits, as he is deep into that wonderful USS Eagle project for a customer. Randy Finfrock found this article, showing my PT BOAT TOY, or as it is advertised, a SCOOTER. What is so very important is that the date is 1942, so we have confirmed without a doubt that this toy is from WWII. More later as Stan progresses on the project.

Stan has begun to fill in any cracks in the wood, and has begun to sand finished parts. I think he is keeping some things a secret, and has moved forward quicker than he is leading on. Maybe it's my Christmas present, I HAVE BEEN GOOD...................

Frank;
I never knew you were blond and wore glasses as a kid. Are those all black Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers or all black PF Flyers?

You noticed those fancy PF FLYERS. The Kids toys in those days were made to last. Even though the one I have is being restored, it could still operate with no problem. Today's toys would be broken within a week or so and need to be replaced. Hey don't laugh, I was on the dirty blonde side when I was a young Kid, and wore glasses in the third grade........................

If the young man in the photo is using that boat as intended, it looks like a guaranteed knee-skinner!
Be careful when you test-ride it!

Frank,
I was just reading the text of the ad and it refers to "realistic gun noise ratchets". Does your toy scooter have such a ratchet noise-maker? Does it still work? Just curious. Thanks Jerry

I think I owe you one Jerry. Just behind the gun we were looking at a round device, which was missing a dowel. because of your comments here, Stan says that round wooden device must have been used by the rider to turn this while shooting the gun. Stan checked the underside, and low and behold it is rigged to do just that, although missing is the card or piece of whatever is needed to make that sound, Kind of like when were Kids and added a playing card to our Bikes spokes to make that flapping sound. I am sure Stan will figure out how to reattach something to make that sound, so thanks for the heads up and helping us to discover what that round piece of wood was on the decking.................

FRANK;
THIS IS JUST A GUESS, I HAVEN'T SEEN THE INSIDE OF THE RACHET DEVICE. THE CLAPPER WAS PROBABLY A PEICE OF STEEL CARGO BANDING THAT SLAPPED AGAINST A DOWEL FIXED TO THE OUTSIDE CASING. THE COG WHEEL ATTACHED TO THE CRANK CAUGHT THE END OF THE SPRING STEEL BANDING.
THE FASTER YOU TURNED THE CRANK, THE HIGHER THE 'FIRING RATE'. TOY TECHNOLOGY OF THE TIME.

Thanks so much. I will pass along your methods to Stan, who I am sure will rig this up for Firing Runs. I was hoping to rig the torpedoes to fire a small explosive charge so I can fire them at Will Day, Lol.........

You hit the head on the nail. I spoke with Stan today about that ratchet sound we needed to add, and Stan has already turned the Toy upside down to find the piece that was missing. He will more than likely replace it with that metal band you spoke of, but in any event, the toy will have the original sound it did in 1942. Thanks Steve for the heads up.............
