It looks as though I will most likely purchase the fittings I need at 1/32 scale at HR PRODUCTS. I should be able to purchase .50 caliber machine guns, Depth charges, and other stuff from them. Not sure who else makes these items in this scale, although Al mentioned a Company, which I have yet to check out........................

Hello Mike,
This photo is in the Knights of the Sea book that I just recently acquired. The caption is at the bottom, it says "PT68 at Melville 1942" Hope this helps....Jerry PT658 Portland OR

Frank, the answer should be obvious... have a model sailor standing in front of each number on the boat, with their elbows sticking out... ;-)

Pat, I never thought of that, lol. Stan will be happy to hear this. By the way this project jumped up to 1/24 scale, thanks to a wonderful donation of hull and cabin. Should be beautiful when completed, sometime next year........................

Thanks Jerry, but that photo was posted earlier in this thread. I was hopeing either for another shot that more cleary defined whats on the bow of the 68 or even if possible someone could enhance the photo that already has been posted showing the 68 from the stern! Thanks again.

I am posting these great photos of PT 66 from the photo collection of Lt. Frank Snyder Squadron 8

note the photo that shows the torpedo tube has writing on the back side as follows:
Hanks, Davey, Marshall
? - Vacca, Lt Peabody
Parker Lt Pearce
Buna New Guinea

If you notice the photo of the charthouse with both the side and front boat numbers visible. You can see how the front numbers could easily be mistaken for an eight if the photo was taken from a greater distance, or if the exposure, or contrast was lighter, not to mention if there was a scratch on the original negative or photo a common occurrence among Black and white WWII images. Of course the same effect could make an eight look like a six. What I am getting at is that even though some people say that photos don't lie. They can be misleading and sometimes even do lie. Maybe someone like Al will see something in these photos that will help to solve the: Is it PT 66 or 68 mystery. Of course another photo of the 68 boat in the same location or time period would help a lot. I myself can not say for certain that I know the correct boat number of the famous camouflage 77 foot Elco.
