That photo was taken in July or August? Interesting. Then, it could be the 68 (again) ... that low machine APPEARS not to be a single .50, it could be a twin .30 ... It doesn't appear to be as long as the low .50 in the photo of the 66 recently by Alex or Wayne.
Sorry Alex, but my gut is still telling me that it's the 68. Trust me guys, it's the 68. When will someone in my life start to listen to me.

Frank,
here is a shot of the PT25 with the same tripod gun mount for what its worth. It shouldnt be too difficult to make these tripods for the mounts on your model scratchbuilding master that Stan P is! Jerry
PT25 in Pearl with closeup of tripod gun mount (USS Hornet in background) Does anyone notice the canvas covers over the windows?

Jerry
That's what I was looking for. This can be enhanced and should be an easy build for that .30 caliber mount. Garth, that forward machine gun, is no doubt a single .50 caliber. As far as which number to build, I am confident with the evidence provided that the boat on the Morobe River is in fact PT-66, and that is how I will have her constructed. Jerry, I do see the canvas across the forward chart house windows, but the shot on the River, shows those windows painted over............

Frank,
Look at the drawing by Bob Ferrell, it's a twin mount ... and in the photo posted by either Wayne or Alex on the last page, the lower machine gun has a long barrel. The barrel(s?) on the boat that I think is the 68 is/are shorter ...
So, the date of the photo means that the 68 was still afloat ...
I'm sorry, ... I'm not 100% convinced that it's not ...
I'm sure that there some out there who're thinking that I'm wrong and snickering ... but I've got a gut feeling that I'm right ...

The forward weapon is a single .50 M2 on what appears to be a non-standard pintle mount. Besides the size, the more obvious indentifying features of the .50 include the collar at the forward end of the receiver and the rivetted plate on the top of the aft portion of the weapon.
Compare this view with that of a .30 M1919 (less the stock and bipod).
The pintle yoke is attached to a cradle, to which the .50 is attached. A standard army high angle mount for this weapon looked like this
while the low angle tripod pintle/yoke looked like this:

Al is right, as usual. That is definitely an M2 on the bow.

I thought I had already established this in my previous post, just kidding. Thanks Al for clearing this up, although I never doubted it for a minute.......................

I think we will have her done in 1/32 scale. PT-10 completed by Stan Pienkowski came out so well at that scale. Large enough for an impressive visual tool, yet small enough so as not to take up so much room, and easier to transport......................

Jerry posted a shot on this thread on Nov, 21,, showing a somewhat close up of the tower mount for the forward .30 caliber machine gun. Is there anyway you could zoom into the tower mount to get me a better view for Stan.
I talked with Stan about colors for this boat. As it seems there are no real answers as to this field applied paint job, we will play with certain shades of greens and stop when we both feel we have a good look. The black and white photo of PT-66 offers no real clues as to the colors but I think one could make an educated guess.

Hey Frank . . .
I tried but can't get much from it, it was just horrible. However, Jerry appears to have an actual photo, maybe he can scan and scale up just that section. Should be able to generate a better photo than I can.
There is a good shot of PT-26 fueling up at dockside, and it has one of these tripod gun mounts. Maybe someone has a good photo to scan or maybe HQ has a copy. You can see the photo in Victor's first book, on page 13, it shows good detail as to interfacing with the deck. Also on page 105 there is a decent shot of the upper portion, here it is being used to mount the bazooka arrangement - I believe it is the same. Frank Johnson's book also has these on page 8 and 77, but not as good as Vic's book. However with respest to the Bazooka mount the machine guns receiver bracket and gun cradle my be more to liking as shown above in AL's exploded drawing.
I'm not sure, but I might have seen a Bazooka shot on Gene's PT-King site. Its been awhile, take a look. http://pt-king.gdinc.com/
