This was sent to me a few days ago, by someone who built the boat. What do you guys think of the color he used. I might prefer a darker green. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I too always thought that the 77 footer featured in the Morobe River photo was of PT-68, until I stumbled upon this photo this morning while looking for something else. This Photo is on page 41 of "Allied Torpedo Boats" by John Lambert. The boats number is clearly seen as 66 and that big number "8" is featured. The 66 boat has two torpedoes tubes but one can only make out the forward depth charge behind the forward starboard torpedo Tube. Hope this helps

I Built that RC model of PT-68 for the late Duane Fose in the late 80's. The color was based on early 1980's correspondence with Al Ross. Al felt back then that the lightest color was a yellowish green, kind of a Snot Green was the term he used. I used a flat Pactra Chromate Green as it was called back then and mixed in a small amount of Yellow Ocher (sp) and brown to acheive the color that Al described. I did attempt to contact PT-68 crewmembers through the only medium available in the 80's, snail mail, but never received any reply's.

After Duane took posession of the boat he made some structural changes and repainted the model a few years later to the color you see now.

You know, it could even be two shades of green and black. There is so much kick off the water in the photos that it is really hard to tell.

The proof is in the pudding. What a great shot this is, and it really shows that the boat in the photo, on the Morobe River is in fact PT-66. Thanks so much. Looks like you too will have to change your numbers Garth to PT-66...........CASE CLOSED. Nice job on the boat by the way Wayne.

I was thinking that Wayne really screwed up everyone's argument with atht picture being posted. But, like everything in researching history, one answer generates 5 questions. So the question is (are), with the two earlier pictures of the 66 and 68 boat, what boat is the one with four torpedo tubes? If it is the 68, when did she get the tubes added?

Guess I'm going ot have to go the the archives (oh, gee), see if they have the logs for both boats and see if they indicate when the tubes were put on.

If you enlage that photo that Wayne posted, you might see the Rooster painted over the Eight, on the side of the cabin.

P.S. That 77' boat burning at Samar in 1945 is also PT 66, by then named Cheetah, she later got radar and had a pin-up nude painted on the front of the cabin.

It seems that the Mast on PT-66 was taken down, which means we will have to build her without one. Must also try and find a better shot of that different looking mount for the twin .50 on the bow. Opps, let me say, I think it's a twin .50 on the bow. Hey, this is fun.....................

Oop's, Forgot PT's 66, 67 & 68 were in Squadron 8 before making my earlier post. Ted brought up a good point about the Squadron 8 insignia. Never noticed that 68 had an eight until Garth mentioned it earlier in this post. Guess that means that 68 would have had the Squadron 8 emblem too. But at least now we know that PT-66 was also equipped with two Torpedo Tubes and 4 depth charges aft. The only Photo's I've ever seen of 66 is when she was "Cheetah".

In Dicks enlargment I think that the second number on the front of the charthouse more resembles an "8" that a "6". At this point don't be in a hurry to change the number of that boat. That said, its time to lurk into the background again.

The mast on a 77 footer was telescopic and might have been in the lowered position and behind the guys in the photo.
