Okay fellas, I guess it is as simple as that- a tour of the Elco plant. Thanks for all the input. What a resource this board is!!

Familiarization trips to the ELCO plant was a standard evolution for most, if not all, of the classes at MTBSTC. I've seen various photos of (MTBSTC) officer classes at ELCO for many different years of the war. Not sure if the enlisted classes made the visit as I have not found any documentation or pictures. My guess is that they didn't (as a rule); one because the classes were too big. It would be logical that the RTU guys, or others that were responsible for hull work would have gone to see construction methods but again, I have no documentation.

ID or name tags were also required at MTBSTC. So whether the name tags seen in the photo were MTBSTC tags or ELCO tags is unknown.

Oh, and one other thing to keep in mind. The boats were not commissioned individually. It was the Squadron that was commissioned. The boats were inventory items, just like the Aviation Squadrons.
