As I posted here earlier, I'm building a model of my Dad's boat-PT-342, Ron 24, 1943-44, SW PAcific. Now I have a question as to the color and location of the lifeboat? No pics in Dad's albumn show it but he was mainly taking pics of his buddies not the boat. I know it was NOT on the foredeck. Any suggestions. I could leave it off? Color though??

Certainly having a photograph of the location would be helpful. I am sure we might be able to dig one up here on the message board, but In case not, I have seen three locations for the boats blow up raft. One location was forward on the bow, the other was on top of the chart house. and yet another on top of the day room. I am guessing you are referring to this type raft and not the balsa raft? I know when we did our PT-374 Memorial project, it was decided to leave any raft off the boat, because one, we could not get a good shot of the raft in a photograph, and two the man we did the project in honor of could not remember seeing the raft, or where it was located. I know that some boats even had a small dingy type boat kept on top of the dayroom.................

Jeff: You are right; I see no indication of rafts on the bow sections, charthouse overheads
, or dayroom canopies of the Ron 24 boats. I do notice a couple of shots of balsa rafts lashed horizontially to the port side of the dayroom on some of the other Dreger Harbor boats. Looks to me like they are painted the same color as the rest of the boat (hard to be sure in B&W.)
