Will;
No "Bird Dog" or should I say "Byrd Dog" was Carlton L. Byrd' s nickname. He was Exec on PT 114 RON 5, RON 2, and RON 6 DIV 17. As far as I know during his time on the boat, PT 114 was nicknamed "Buccaneer".
Byrd was in RON 5, 2, 6, 8, 4, and 37/38/39(I have yet to find out which one but it was one of these later RON's because in late spring 1944 he was an instructor at Melville, did his few months and was out the door again to the Phillippines. My original guess was he went either with Clark Faulkner in RON 37 or Russ Hamachek in RON 39. But now reviewing the commissioning dates of these two RONs, I am more inclined to think he went with Russ Hamachek in RON 39.(this would have allowed him to perform as an instructor for about 12 months).
Take care,
TED

Roger that, Ted. Thanks. I also show the 114 boat as being named SILVER DOLLAR at some point.
