Greetings,
I've been reading PT-109 by Donovan again. After arriving at Rendova the 109 suffered some minor hull damage due to bomb fragments passing through the hull. Donovan writes that the the "hull was patched".
Can one of our veterans tell us how a patch was performed in the field?
Thank you
David

In Vancouver over a year ago at the WWII Ending Celebration at the PT 658 dock a fellow showed me a cone shaped piece of wood that he said was used to stop up bullet holes in the hull. You pounded it in and then let it soak up water and I guess sawed it off even with the hull.
My Dad was commended on his fitness reports for being a good hull repairman, but he never told how it was done.
