Hi Mark,
I was given those photos by Alvins son at the 2008 PT658 NW Region Bull Session. Alvin was assigned to PT235 (Ron19?) same as Milt Donadt (from Bill Maloneys website) in the Pacific. He was transferred off the boat and to Base Force in Samar. I think the photo you are referring to was taken in Samar area. Alvin was there when they were removing the equipment from the PT Boats getting them ready to burn. I have noticed several of these same pictures seem to have been mande available to numerous people, maybe they had a lot of prints going around and they shared them between each other? I can post many more of his photos for you if you wish, I have posted them here before and gave several to Frank Andruss. I hope this is helpful. Thanks Jerry

jerry,
if you have the time i'd be very interested to see the photos.
the pic in frank's book is nearly identical to one my father took:
http://www.pt127.org/crew/douglas_rj/photos/pages/BurnedBoat1_tif.htm
except in my dad's pic the boat is lower in the water, or the tide has come up. with the similarity i wondered if alvin was assigned to the 127 or some other ron 12 boat.
my dad took several photos of this boat and i am wondering if it could be the 127 as i doubt he would have taken so many of just a random boat.
when i'm in samar i'd at least like to be able to see if i can find the location where the boat was burned and any related pics might help.
thanks.

Hey Mark,
Here are a few of the pics I got from Alvin Hanson's son. I hope these are helpful. Most of these were taken in or near Samar. Jerry
This is Alvin leaning on the day room canopy
THere are about 50 more of these pics in the group, too many to post! Jerry

Great photos Jerry! Thank you for posting them. I notice a lot of happy faces on the men. I'm sure they glad the war was over and that they'd be heading home soon.

Thanks Jerry, although I have all of the photos, it is nice to see them on the screen. Still sad to think about all of those boats being destroyed...........

Mark;
The photo you posted, showining a burned boat with what looks like fuel tanks exposed, is what is left of PT 66, a 77' ELCO that was used at base 17 as a runabout."Cheetah" was reclassified as a Small Boat 23 February 1945.
