A friend of mine who visited England took this photo in Portsmouth, England and shows MGB-81, an original H. Scott Paine Boat (designed prototype).

It runs, is in good condition with the next phase being the installation of gun mounts and guns. A thought it to be a very cool boat.

Not only that Frank, but the British actor Patrick McNee (of THE AVENGERS) was her last skipper.

Her current owner is Phil Clabburn, ...

Apparently, in the 1950s or 1960s, she was seized doing some smuggling and almost broken up because of that.

Not sure I understand the "designed prototype" comment. MGB 81 was the last of the first group of 71' 6" MGBs (MGB 74-81). Designed by George Selman (who worked for British Power Boat), these boats were a follow-on to their 63' and 70' MASB/MGB types. At some point, these boats were reclassified as MTBs, although not all appear to have been fitted with tubes. The design was altered later in the war, the long coachroof being replaced with a short MTB cockpit. The prototype for this modified design was MGB 123, production beginning with MTB 458.

That's a cool looking boat, thanks Frank.

I found an image of the stern showing the hatch they used to load the rum:

The boat's history history, not sure of the accuracy. Also some images of her underway:

I added the design prototype to the post simply because it was written on the back of the photo that was sent to me. I certainly do not pretend to know very much about these boats. I just liked the photo that was sent. Thanks for all the information guys...............
