Hello everyone. I am trying to find out some info about my grandfather. He has passed on now and I wish I could have learned more about his service. He was pretty hard to get to open up. The few stories he would tell were about barge busting. I know he was enlisted and manned a 50 cal. His name was Clyde Depue. But he went by Waiine. I know this is a shot in the dark but if anyone could tell me anything I would be most greatful! Thanks

Hello and welcome!
Do you have any other information at all? Pacific or the Med?
Is your Grandmother still alive? Any chance there is any paperwork hiding in a filing cabinet? A copy of his discharge or separation papers will go a long way. Many vets held onto the paperwork for Veteran's Affairs reasons...here's what a discharge paper looks like:
If your Grandmother is not alive...do you know who in your family handled the estate? They could have these papers sitting in a box and not even know it. Regardless, next of kin can get a lot of paperwork (if it exists) from the Navy through the National Archives:

The folks here at PT Boats can be real helpful if you can narrow down their time in the service - location - rating (job) - etc. Just a name, even a memorable one like your grandfather's, can be a tall order.
If you don't have any luck with that...see if you can track down any of your grandfather's friends. Did he drink at a VFW or American Legion? My grandfather had many more details and stories for veterans of his generation than he had for the grandkids. I was lucky enough to track some of his old friends down and gleam some bits of info from their memory.
Good luck!
