God Bless all those brave souls who lost their life in the invasion of Normandy 67 years ago today. I can just see the PT BOATS waiting to destroy those boats attempting to disrupt our invasion forces. Anyone on the board that was in Normandy we would love to hear from you.

In an interesting note about a skipper that went from the warm waters of the Pacific to the other side of the world...just in time for D-Day!

William F. 'Bud' Liebenow, who had been skipper of the PT-157 in the Pacific from Nov 1942 to Nov 1943, was suddenly transferred by Commander Bulkeley to the ETO. After riding with the British on their PTs getting familiar with the general operations in the area, Liebenow was given command of the PT-199. Liebenow was close into the beach areas on D-Day and rescued many sailors off the sunken destroyer USS Corry.

I just spoke to Bud Liebenow and he a bit in awe at the amount of instant information that can be found on the internet. His wife Luck is anxious to look up this web-page herself!

Awesome report on this incident. Thanks for sharing. It's funny, but Lt. Liebenow looks just like he did when I met him in 1993. I wonder if he ever ages. Thanks again for sharing this report. I enjyed it very much.

You recall that in addition to the Silver Star that Liebenow was awarded for his time on the PT-157 in the Pacific, he also earned a Bronze Star for his services on the PT-199 in the Atlantic. Quite a career from March '42-Nov '45

As he's 91-years young now Bud talks slower certainly than what I heard on your interview tapes of him in 1993. When I talk to his wife Lucy on the phone, who's just a few years younger than Bud, she sounds like she's forty-something!

God Bless then and keep them both OUT of harm's way!
