Could someone provide me with more information on these Scott-Paine
PT Boats. I may be partial being that my late uncle served on PT 369
but you seldom hear anything about these four boats. They were reverse
lend lease but where were they outfitted etc.
Thanks,

Mark:
I believe the boats you speak of were actually built for the Netherlands, completed between April and May 1943. They were designated TM-32, 35,36, & 37. One of the boats, PT 368 ran aground in 1944, as well as another, PT 371. PT 371 was destroyed to prevent capture. These boats were actually 70 foot boats that served with Squadron 18, and were built by the Canadian Power Boat Company in Montreal. These boats were shipped to Fyfe's Shipyard, Glenwood Landing, Long Island, N.Y., where they were re-fitted using Elco Fittings. This Squadron also had the Elco fabricated boats that were assembled by Harbor Boat Building Company in California. These boats were PT's 362-367. The boats when completed were identical to the 80 footers.
I am not sure exactly how the 70 footers were retro-fitted. Being much smaller, I do not know if they were fitted with Torpedoes or not. Maybe they had the light weight roll off torpedoes. I am not sure what they had for guns. Sorry I could not be of more help, but I am sure someone on this message board will take over with where I left off...........

Based on some old photocopies of some rather hazy photos of the boats taken by Ed Polk and held by PTBINC, the basic armament included a 20mm and 37mm forward, twin .50s admiships, four MK13 torpedoes on MK1 racks (although some of the photos show only the forward pair),
and a 20mm aft. I can't make out the particular MK of the 20s from the photos. The odd additional .30s and .50s show up in some of the photos, as well. An SO radar was also fitted.
As a fan of the original BPB and ELCO design, I love these boats and have collected a fair amount of material on them in their original design configurations. These will be part of ACF, V3.

Mark: I have a couple of pictures of 369 crewmen as well as some shots of the other boats (probably the ones mentioned by Al). Send me your e-mail address and I'll shoot you some copies.

I've posted a photo of three of the CPB boats in their original configuration at:
http://www.coastalforcesplans.com/id21.html
The two boats to the right were part of the group which went to the RN as MTB 332-343. The boat to the right is one of the HSLs ("crash boats") destined for the RCAF.
