It looks like a high efficiency 1-50 mod of the 2-60 air conditioning system common on automobiles back then.

Jeff
Not really, I thought the AC unit on autos was a tubular afare that hung on the window, about 4-5 inches in diameter and 21/2-3 feet long. Was there another model?

I may be wrong, but wasn't that just the evaporator unit for the 2-60 Ted?

Ted, this was on the 305 also. I cant find any drawings for this. It was certainly feild installed as it is not in earlier photos. Also the little grill just forward of the scoop was added as well as the mushroom ventilator on top of the cabin

I dont have any pics from this time of the starboard side. If you look at the pic of the 307, it looks like the starboard window is solid. Was this vent just installed on the port side?

Bob,

Thanks for the pictures, check out the SO radar dish, no fiberglass dome! I do not think I have ever seen a photo of the dish before.

Sorry Ted, I missed the black arrow pointing at the vent. I thought you were kidding and was referring to the missing chart house front as a fresh air vent... Doh.

Was the damage caused by rough seas?

TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NOT 'OLDER THAN DIRT', THE AUTOMOTIVE COOLING TECHNIQUE. CODE: 1-50 AND 2-60, REFERS TO HOW MANY WINDOWS ARE DOWN AND AT WHAT SPEED. THE CANISTER TYPE COOLERS, USUALLY MOUNTED ABOVE THE DRIVERSIDE WINDOW WAS AN EVAPORATIVE DEVICE. POPULAR IN DESERT CLIMATES, THEY WOULD TEND TO GIVE YOU 'BRAIN FREEZE'.
NOW BACK TO THE BOAT STUFF! IT JUST LOOKS LIKE A RAM AIR/ VENTILATOR AIMED AT THE BACKSIDE OF HOT, VACUUME TUBE DRIVEN ELECTRONICS IN THE CHART ROOM. BEST GUESS.
