If you bring the base of the pedestal up to the bottom of the turret, the top of the canvas cover is at least as high, if not higher, than the muzzles of the .50s. The pedestal is much shorter than the turret, so whatever is mounted on the pedestal is much longer than a .50. Because this was a special ops squadron, they may have mounted different weapons for different missions. Indeed, the photos uploaded so far show twin .50s, no weapons, and whatever is under the canvas.
