The pedestals on 199 appear to be slightly modified units sometimes fitted to LCM-3s. The unmodified unit only had a single .50. Here's a shot of 199 with the twin mounted.

Here'a a shot of the port side basket on 199. There's some stuff in it, but had to tell what.

Could those mounts be used to mount a 20mm? If you look at the first picture Al posted (side view) with the canvas cover makes it look like it is a 20mm the way it is pointed at th etop.
Just my analysis.

Look at the 50 by that sailor .... two barrels seen clearly, meaning a twin mount ... could someone please crop that section of that photo which Mr. Ross posted above ... to illustrate what I'm saying, please?
Also, in the still photos section of that link to critical past Charlie provided, one can CLEARLY see a twin gun on that mount.

Those two mounts, port and starboard are indeed for a 50 caliber set up. If you follow the mount to the top you can see the 50 caliber pintle mounts on the top.....................

It might be possible if you had a cradle setup like the MK12 mount. The pedestal looks quite robust and might be able to take the shock. Would be nice to have a shot without the canvas cover.
Here's one version of the original mount:

Here is my two cents:
The mount Definitely looks like a multi purpose mount, however.............

Looks like life jackets and helmets in the cradle to me.

I'm not saying they didn't have the twin-50s, you can clearly see that in the pictures. It is just with the one photo, the canvas cover looks like it is covering a 20mm. Could be something they tried and eventually went back to the 50s.
