A colleague in Italy sent me a bunch of photos of some of the former Higgins PTs acquired by the Italian Navy post-war.
MS 453 (ex-PT215) as a special ops boat.
MS 451 (ex-PT206) and MS 452 (ex-PT210) as motor torpedo boats
MS444 (ex-PT94) as a motor torpedo boat.

Not only are these great photo's but I would hope one day soon you might think about doing a book on these Post War Boats. I know that I would certainly be interested in learning more about what happened to these boats.

That would be a job best done by Chip Marshall, who has done extensive research on the boats' post-war service.

I kinda hate to admit it, but I find photos of derelict vessels extremely interesting. Those are some great shots!

Thank you for the pictures of 215 subsequent to her service. Does anyone have information on her last known location / owner or fate? Also, does anyone have contact information for E. DuBose (referenced in Victors book on pages 44 and 45) ?

UNITA VELOCI COSTIERE ITALIANE states MS 453 was laid up at La Spezia (the primary Italian Naval Base) on 1SEP78. Although the book was published in 1998, it does not give any subsequent fate. She, along with MS 444, is still listed as SOG boats in the 1985-86 JANE'S FIGHTING SHIPS. but not in the 1995 issue of COMBAT FLEETS.

Mark;
You know what that means. I don't believe other countries have what we have and what the Royal Navy had, you just can't buy a military boat surplus. She as the others were probably broken up. The two 77' Elco's(PT 49 aka HM MTB-307 and PT 57 aka HM MTB-315) they had were cannibalized and broken up in the 1950's.
FYI: the longest surviving ELCO was PTC 5 (aka: HM MGB-86)
which was supposed to be under restoration(starting in 1991) at Gravesend, but was burned by its owner in 1993-2001. Now it is PT 48.
Take care,
