Steve
With the make up of the color schemes of some of the boats put to bed, your model looks wonderful. You did a bang up job on the recreation of the THUNDERBOLT. I only have a close up of PT-556 with her Available Jones on the day room. I checked to see if I had others, but none that show a close up............

Frank and Garth;
Available Jones is also the figure on the RON 29 logo, and yes as Garth said "most" of the boats were named after Lil Abner characters, however, I am not to sure about PT 557 TERMITE’S DELIGHT, PT 559 BLACK RUFE maybe these two boats had earlier names that related to the cartoon strip but these seem to be the only names anyone remembers for these two. As for Available Jones, I also think he was the basis for the Long Island Railroads "Dashing Comuter", but this is just my idea.
Hey, I learned one thing today, at least now I know where my Dad got Lower Slobovia from! I would ask my Dad " Hey Dad, where is that guy from"? he would usually say "I don't know , maybe Lower Slobovia or maybe Upper".
Take care,
TED
P.S. With my idea about the LIRR and being from Long Island, you just don't know how I wish I could have bought that original RON 29 plaque from you!!!

Hi Steve,
Thanks for coming over to talk about your boats. I have to tell you that I think those Thunderbolt gun systems are the goofiest looking things I've seen on a PT Boat. But that makes it all the more interesting and I am very happy that you built it. Your construction and scratch building are just excellent.

I was very happy to receive Steve's beautifully done PT-559. It came in today's FEDEX delivery and arrived safe and sound. Plans are to bring it to Stan's in the morning for measurements for a mount and base. I will have the case made locally. Thank's to Steve, this wonderful model will take it's place in my Exhibit......................

The case, base, and pedestal for Steve's wonderful boat are just about finished. I hope to pick the boat up this weekend. I will post photos of the boat in her new case.

Stripes on PT 559
Most of my pictures for Mediterranean in vol. I and II were from Mr. Malusky, including the one I loaned to Johnson. (see page 55 of vol. II about Malusky) He told me that LIFE magazine offered him $200 at that time to use his pictures but without credit. He turned
them down. Years later he sent me all his great pictures for free. A great guy, like all
PT boaters.
As to the yellow and red stripes, I learn that from E. DuBose (see page 50 vol.I). Another
great guy.Unfortunately we lost in touch.
