Greetings,
A gentleman just posted two 1:35 PT's on modelwarships.com gallery today. One of PT-109, and the other a Med boat, PT-559. The builder, Steve Sobieralski, did some very nice construction on both of these boats. The 559 boat includes the Thunderbolt gun system. Give it a look.

David;
Those were outstanding models! I like his PT 559 very much! I have been planning a PT 558 model to join the PT 308 model I am currently working on, so this will come in handy, Thanks for pointing this out.
Take care,

Thanks for posting the link, Dick.
I'd seen Steve's excellent 109 conversion some time ago, and he did a great job back-dating that kit to a 103-class 80' Elco.
How about our ETO/MTO PT experts on the Message Board weighing in on the colors on his 559? Accurate?
That scratch-built Thunderbolt unit on the stern looks pretty neat.

Drew;
I am not too sure about that red on the stern.

I'm not that sure about that entire color scheme. Seems a bit over the top to me. I do like the 109 conversion, a very nice job.........

I don't know if it's accurate but I like it. Neither boat is really weathered and that's okay in my book. Colors look like they're straight and uncut for scale effect. He quotes Victor's book so Victor, if you're checking in what's your take?

The scheme is correct, although the actual shades may be different. Vertical surfaces were Thayer Blue, horizontal surfaces were Deck Blue (20-B). The deck outboard of the toe rail was probably Thayer Blue. The bow panel was some light color (white or yellow, depending on varying unconfirmed sources) and the aft panel was indeed red. I have seen a few seconds of color video of one of the RON 29 boats from astern and the red is there.
These photos were cropped from US MOSQUITO FLEET. Unfortunately, they were cheaply printed and used rather large screens for the photos, so the dots appear very large. However, the color demarcations are very apparent. If you have Vic's book, check out the photo of Bastia Harbor on page 44. You can see the deckedge and bow panel color demarcations clearly. The right-hand boat is 563..

It DOES appear that there is a different color strip on the boat's aft section.
Observation/question: If the boats had the yellow triangle panel on their foredecks, wouldn't the aft panel be the same color?
And, if the Axis boats (Schnellboote and MAS, MS, VS boats) had red and white panels on their boats, would the Allies not shy away from the same colors to avoid any confusion?
But, the gentleman did a VERY GOOD job on both models. I really like the 559. I like the Ron 29 insignia on the "bridge wing" ... my 556 has that on it as well. Just you try and reduce that insignia down enough to go on a 1:72 scale model! Maddening.
