Can anyone tell me if there was any criteria used in selecting bases. Such as if they require a drinking water supply point ect..Also I confussed by some of the base numbers, such as some bases many have an 1 or 4 behind them while others show several number such as 2,4,8,8, etc.

Dave;
While looking on the surface at all the PT boat bases a bit of confusion could arise, however, the main ingredients were always present, location, seclusion, at least 6 ft + depth, and proximity to action. fresh water as you mention would be a plus, however, water distillation was set up on each island, so this was really not an issue. Location, seclusion, and harbor situtaion was always primary. Everything else was a plus.
