Does anyone have any pictures or information relating to the activities of Ron 12, my father was on PT 192, he is now 89 years old and is failing. He suffered a stroke durring an operation, and his memory is distorted, but the subject matter of PT Boats always seems to revive and put a smile on his face. I framed and gave him the picture that Will Day sent me of the crew of the 192, and I cannot say enough how that helped him. If there is anything else out here please contact me so that I can help my father. Thank you Will Day and 29navy.

Frank, received your e-mails, sorry that I'm late thanking you, but I am thanking you as well as everyone that has responded to my plea. The pictures and information that I am receiving is very helpful and is apreciated, not only by my father, but also by me as well. Only the souls that endured the struggle, whether it be on the forefront or those that supported the men on the front in whatever capacity, can know truly of what sacrifices that they have made to ensure or freedom. Too many people that talk of freedom are not willing to step forward to protect that right.
Again thank you.

Robert, Mark Douglas and Lance Zedric (ALAMO SCOUTS)
I looked at the list of Boats in RON12 and PT127 is on the top of the list. The following boats were in RON12: PT's 127,145,146,150-152,187-196
It just so happens that Dick has posted the link to Mark Douglas (and his Dad Robert J Douglas) PT127 website on the links page. http://pt127.org/ So if you go there, Mark posted 12 pages of 150+ photographs of his Dad on PT127 and at the Base at Ormoc bay. There is also a few pics of PT146 and some other PT Boats in the Squadron. To see the photos, First click on the word "CREW" (on the Left margin) then click on the Photograph of Robert Douglas standing at the helm of PT127. Then click on the word "PHOTOS" in the Left Hand Margin. These are a lot of really great photos of which I have never seen before. Many show interior shots and crew photos while off duty etc. Just in case you were not aware of this unique treasure that Mark was kind enough to post on the internet. Lance Zedric, I saw a photo on Page 8 labeled "Rescue_Feb1Jan4_44.tif" that sure looks like a bunch of ALAMO SCOUTS. The guy in the middle wearing camos looks identical to the guy in another photo f PT127 with 2 Alamo scouts on the bow. Just FYI Jerry PT658 Portland OR

Jerry,
Thanks for the heads up on the fine site of PT 127. I'm still trying to identify the mission(s) that PT 127 supported the Alamo Scouts on. As you know, it's tough going. I did, however, notice that there are photos of PT 146, which I have identified as having transported the Scouts on an aborted recon mission [rough weather] of Biak Island on 21 May 1944. Every piece helps fill in the puzzle.

Alamo Scout Lance,
This is the photo I was comparing it to. Do you see the guy in front? He looks exactly like the guy in the center of the other photo. I wonder what the rescue mission was? Jan-Feb 1944? Jerry

Jerry,
To my knowledge, there were no Alamo Scouts rescue missions performed with or supported by PT boats in Jan/Feb 1945. Of course, the Cabanatuan mission occured on Jan 30-Feb 1, 1945, but that included NO PT boats.
Having studied PT boat mission reports from the New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon Campaigns, it was common for PTs to mistake scouts of the Alamo Scouts for Alamo Force scouts. Alamo Force was simply the name of the U.S. 6th Army through the New Guinea Campaign.
The Alamo Scouts were classified until October 1944, and so many scouting parties were mistakenly identified as Alamo Scouts by Army and Navy personnel. This has been maddening to try and sort through, but I have largely identified most of the PT boats that supported the missions. However, there are a few gaps.
Granted, the men in the photos look like Alamo Scouts John McGowen (rear) and Robert Sumner (forefront), but I cannot make a definitive identification. If I find out anything, or if you receive additional info, please let me know.
Thanks again for all you do,
Lance |

Hello PT Boaters:
I am the daughter of PTBoater Jim Ver Kuilen who served on PT Boats 187 and 126 in RONS 9, 6, 12...Machinists Mate 1st Class who served in the Southwest Pacific 1941-1945. Close association by the numbers listed. My dad turns 91 on January 16th--this Sunday!! This past year I accompanied my dad on the NE Wisconsin OLD GLORY Honor Flight an affiliate of the National Honor Flight Network honoring WWII Veterans and an opportunity for them to see their WWII memorial in Washington, DC. and receive a Welcome Home that was nothing short of FIRST CLASS...long overdue. Truly a fantastic experience honoring the Greatest Generation. I would highly recommend it to any of you out there considering it! Outstanding tribute from start to finish! Veterans go free of charge. If any of you out there who read this can post a birthday greeting for my dad, I'm sure it'll create a smile on his face as it is read at his party on Sunday! Thank you and thank you all for your service...may God grant you calm seas and beautiful sunsets...Nancy
