It is with great sadness that I advise you of the passing of Bob Pickett, QM of PT-167. He was a real gentleman, and will be greatly missed.

This is terrible News and I am very saddened to say the least. Bob and I talked a bit and he was kind enough to send me a very nice drawing of several boats at Melville for my Exhibit. His last E-Mail to me was that he was under the weather. I am so sorry to hear this News. Rest in Peace Bob, may you be reunited with PT-167 and her crew that went before you. God Bless............ Bob also sent me a few of his drawings to use in my new book "Building the PT Boats". It is unclear at this time if they can be used, I am still waiting to get the word from my publisher. Bob's work was intended to be used as the front and back covers of the new book. I sure hope this will work out.

A letter to Bob;
You were kind enough to tell me how good you thought my models of PT 167 were and a few things I needed to change to make them correct, when I sent you my photos. Then you sent me copies of your artwork with your favorite subject: PT 167. The major difference in our work was mine was just a miniature copied from photos, your wonderful artwork was done with heart and soul and came straight from your vivid memories of that tuff scrappy little boat that was your home for almost two years of your life.
As "Who Me?" glides up to the pier to take you across the waves into the sunset on your last patrol, I once again would like to say Thank You for all of your kind words, big heart, and friendship.
Sincerely,
TED

Sadness indeed.
Over the years Bob and I had many email conversations about art work, and how computer technology was driving are passion. The passion of PT boat artwork.
He will be missed as well as his email conversations.

So sorry to hear of Bob's death. I recall many intersting comments that he has made on this board. He will be greatly missed. Some time back he and I had a discussion regarding his 167 boat being hit through the bow by the unexploded torpedo. I was at Rendova the next morning after it happened and was at the dock where the 167 was tied. I couldn't believe it. My sincere condolences go to his family.

I'm playing TAPS in heart as I do whenever I hear of a sailor shoving off to their final patrol.

I am happy to report that my publisher will be using Bob's art work for the covers for the new book. I have been in contact with Bob's son Tom to give my condolances. If you would like to call the family to express your sorrow, here is the number 1-843-449-2903........................

I am deeply saddened by the news of Bob Pickett's passing. After my dad died we made contact with one another through this message board and he and I exchanged pictures and information. I was touched that he felt able to share his memories of my father even though he and I had never met. He was, as Gerald Powell has said, a very kind man.
