Frank-I am wondering if you are in fact the same gentleman I was e-mailing when the hull number 761 was being offered up by Jim M. in florida?

I found out by Jim that the hull was in fact sold for a $1.00 but then destroyed by the new owner. I actually entertained the idea of buying the hull but the cheapest I could have the hull transported was $75K. Because of the need to have the hull taken off the property, I was unable to get anything started.

Does anyone have any ideas of where any more hulls can be found and or any info on any of the boats sold to other countries after the war?

Any word on the Packard that Jim had?

Thank you,
Michael A. Whitlow

Mike:

Yes I do remeber chatting with you about the 761. For a short time I was trying to help Jim with funds to keep the project going. As you might recall Jim invested his own money into the project to shore up the boat and build a cradle for her. PT 761 was of course the last boat to roll off the assembly line at ELCO.

Seems that the Storage Company where the boat was being held gave the new owner of the boat a certain time frame to move her, then shortened that, making it very difficult to get here out of there. This is where things get a bit sketchy. I had called the storage yard to find out about the boat and they told me it was cut up and disposed of. Why the new owner never moved her, or got some type of injunction to stop the boat from being destroyed is beyond me. Had it of been my boat, I would have done everything short of chaining myself to her to keep them from wrecking my property. I know that Jim was very upset to learn what had happened. He put his heart and soul into the project. To me it was nothing short of shooting a defenless animanl.

That makes me sick.I wasn't sure what had actually happened but.....now that I do....I almost wish I didn't know.
Poor Jim, If it makes us sick, i can't imagine what it makes him feel like. He did send me some really cool pctures of the boat in its former glory that were really cool.
Too bad about the cradle too!

Nice chatting with you, do you still sell the DVDs of the elco plant? I remember seeing a number of really cool items on e-bay-gun turret and some photo bundles.

Yes, I still have the DVD's for sale, which help me to maintain my PT Boat Exhibit. I am always looking for items that will enhance my Exhibit. Right now I am looking to purchase 2 more mannequins. A wonderful gentlemen, just donated the money for me to purchase 2 great military half mannequins. As I have many PT Boat uniforms to display, they are a great way to do so. I presently have 6 different DVD's for sale, and yes Jim was very upset with what took place as were those of us that knew what had happened....
