Warm good Morning from Vanuatu
Just a few quick lines from here I am trying to trace any information on U.S.N. P.T. boats stationed here in the New Hebrides during WW2.
I wonder if you would have any images or information on file there that could help us.
Lots of smiles from here.

Hi Andrew,
There was a PT Boat base on Espiritu Santo at the mouth of the river leading into the harbour area. However as the war quickly moved further away from the New Hebrides the need for the base did not exist due to the need of the boats to be close to the action..
The base was taken over by the Flying Boats and a much larger area was cleared to give the aircraft somewere for dry land serviceing.
Most of the PT Boat Base was cleared away at this time..
I don't know if you have been to Santo but I have spent a week there diving the Pres. Coolidge in the mornings and as the afternoons are free I set off and wandered around the many WW11 sites on the Island.
Unfortunatly at the PT Boat site there is very little left but trees growing in a very clear area next to the river were the base was and I spent most of one afternoon at this site so as to not feel that I had misssed anything.
I will do some digging in the info iI have an will try to give you some more info on this area. As i am sure the other members of this board will also .
Cheers David.

I think Espiritu Santo was basically used for off loading of the boats. It had the only capable Crane to offload the large PT BOATS, and was used as a staging area. Boats would simply make their way to Tulagi, then Rendova which was the major headquarters for all of the PT BOAT SQUADRONS, in that area. If not mistaken, Espiritu Santo was also used as a major overhaul base for the Packard Marine Engines, but was quickly disbanded as the boats moved furthur up the line........
