The other day, I decided to purchase two Airfix Vosper Boats. I must admit that I never thought I would build any British boats, but I am finding them to be an interesting boat with as much history as our American PT Boats. The scale is 1/72, and I will have Stan build them alone, meaning NO DIORAMA. Al Ross providing me with some information, as I know very little about these boats, so I really have no clue on boat colors, or what Squadrons I want to depict. I have Tim Connelly's book on the Vospers, which should be a large help, but was wondering what colors the Sailors uniforms were. The kits come with some figures, although I have not gotten the boats yet in the mail.

I understand that the Airfix kits are very well made, although updates on the weapons is not a bad idea. Several companies produce them, so that should no be a problem. I think colors at this point is the most imporant thing, and picking a boat number. I know little about the British Squadrons, and have no clue about famous boats that might have as famous as our PT-41. I guess this is what I get for not looking beyond the PT Boats of WWII. Are there any charts out there that might show the British colors of the Navy Sailors? In any event, this should be fun, because now I can learn about something new, and look forward to adding more boats to the Exhibit.

I would use Al Ross's excellent ALLIED COASTAL FORCES OF WWII (V. II) as a starting point. Also, John Snyder at WEM could probably help with the colors.

Disregard my previous message, if it was seen by anyone while it was (briefly) up!

Both of my Airfix 1/72 boats arrived today. They are actually very nice Kits and with little changes should make nice displays. The first boat we will build is the RAF AIR SEA RESCUE LAUNCH and in checking the parts, I would change the twin .303 Vickers guns and the 20mm Cannon in the stern, which was used in the English Channel in 1944. I could not find any .303 twin Vickers guns on the WEM site, so any sugestions would be great.

Once the first boat is completed, we will then build the 1/72 VOSPER MOTOR TORPEDO BOAT, which again is a very nice Kit sporting a twin 20mm on the bow. My new direction is to stay away from the Diorama's for awhile and concentrate on building a fleet of 1/72 MTB's from other countries, providing they are available. If we can't find one in Kit form, we will scratch build them. These boats should make for a very nice display in the Exhibit and in my PT BOAT DEN. If you have any suggestions where we can purchase other kits, or purchase replacement twin 20mm cannons, or for that matter any suggestions for small boats, give me a buzz here on the message board or my E-mail. This will be a totally different direction for me, as everything in my modeling sphere has been American PT BOATS. Should be fun.
