New Downloadable File:

This document is the “An Administrative History of PT’s during World War II”, by the Office of Naval History, February 15, 1946.

This is an excellent look at the development and production of PT boats throughout the Second World War. It is 355 pages in all, but beware it is a hard read especially near the end because of the poor quality. I had worked on this for weeks and weeks trying everything possible to improve the quality, but it is still very much lacking. With the age and damage of the microfilm, it is nearly impossible to recreate a good copy by any other means then completely retyping the document, which I plan. But my typical three-finger per hand typing technique, makes for very slow work on a document of this size. The typing, my semi-unqunic typing technique, coupled with the readability quality, really slows down the process. Once complete I will load-up the newly recreated file for downloading. I will design the retyped version to look as close to the original as I can, I have a modified typeface that matches the original used typewriter perfectly, so with a little ageing it should appear as it originally did.

On a Windows PC Computer: hold down your right mouse button directly on the file "Link" and choose " Save Target As . . ."

On a Macintosh Computer: hold down your right mouse button directly on the file "Link" and choose "Download Linked File".

First click on this link to go to the download page:

If by chance 10, 20, or 30 of you guys (actually ANYONE) want to supply typing services, are welcome. Simply download the file and contact me then I will assign out 10 pages each time, so no duplicated efforts occur. No formatting is required, just simple typing and saving the file as any type of text file. Any unreadable area, just type in RED “unreadable”. Along with the typing you have to spell check and most importantly, proof-read what you typed against the actual text.

Have fun, reading

Dick

Thanks guys , , ,

Your help will be greatly appreciated, I'll email your assigned block of ten pages. If after the horror of the first ten pages and you wish to continue (Please) I will assign another ten page block. Please don't hold me liable for loss of hair due pulling or yanking it out by hand.

Please, any one can join in. Just make a post or email me.

This is just simple typing in any type of word processor or note pad where the typed file can be saved as some type of text file. No formatting is required. Please be sure to spell check and proof-read your typing against the original. If you run into a section you can't read just type in "Can't Read", preferably in RED, at that point and simply continue on to a section that you can read.

Thanks,
Dick . . .

Dick;
I ahve already been through this book today(slow day at the office), I especially enjoyed A.J. Higgins letter in the appendix, regarding suggested alterations, o existing PT's, and the Navy's abandonment of the Hellcat project. I laughed alot, as I know of similar situations. Send me my assigned pages!

Ted & Jerry thanks for signing on, a pleasure to have you aboard.

Ted, those two last letters at the end of the document - were hilarious, this Mr. Higgins' clearly didn't hold back punches and spoke what ever came to his mind. I would love to have been a fly on the wall of a top Navy meeting and him, even more so, a Navy meeting with him AND Elco. It had to be a real treat. I read his book, and as dis-jointed, as it was, you could see he was a real Firebrand ! ! !
