"Well darn it Jerry, thought with a bit of deduction we could run that critter to ground!"
But really the one thing that has been overlooked between boat numbers and portholes and such is that with that much damage to the Boat whatever the number, is that she brought her crew home safely and so continues the Giantkiller image built up around these Great Boats and their crews.

To all Message Board members,
I think that maybe if we ask Joe Brannon or Arthur Frongello, they may recall which boat it was, I believe there is a good chance that Joe Brannon actually may have taken the photo so why not go to the source? You are right though it is amazing the boat was able to make it back to port with that much damage! Jerry

The photo in this post that shows a portion of the stern being repaired is PT-305. Orders were recieved to load six Mark 8 Torpdoes onto PT's 302, 303, and 305. They had a surplus of the old torpedoes and wanted to get rid of them. The mission was to fire the torpedoes at the Sea Wall in Genoa, Italy. The torpedoes were carried in the forward racks of the boats. Orders were for PT-303 and 305 to fire torpedoes and turn outward away fromt the Sea wall. In the confusion, the boats turned inward with PT-303 striking PT-305, and crushing a portion of her bow.

With water tight doors closed and reduced speed, both boats made it back to Gulf Juan. PT-305 was back on patrol in less then a week...............
