They've always looked the same color of the boat, to me...

Jeff, you recall that odd little offset of the chart house roof binnacle?

Now that I put it together (on the model) and thought it through it is obvious that offset was calculated to be in the center-line of between the deadlight's center cross bar and next to center cross bar (port side in this case) so that it can be read from the inside the chart house without obstruction. So this binnacle was meant for the radioman and for charts-to-navigation (while in the chart house) purposes.

Once the deadlight was painted over the purpose of this binnacle was lost.
