Can anyone confirm that the PT squadrons that patrolled Empress August Bay at Bougainville, operated out of the Naval Base at Torokina during the spring of 1944?

Kent: Base 9 was established 11/3/43 at Cape Torokina. Boats from Rons 20 and 23, among others, operated out of there.

Boats of Ron 5 anchored in Augusta Bay when the invasion took place and patroled out of there for several weeks before moving to
Treasurey Island some miles to, as I recall, the East of Bougainville. Patroling out of Empress Augustas Bay at night was a lot better than staying anchored in the Bay since it was bombed every night and sometimes, shelled during the day. As I recall, and it might be the Torakina Island you refered to. when the 106 came in in the morning after the invasion, it anchored just off that island till some signalman on the beach told us to move since it hadn't been taken yet and Japs were still there. The Marines took the Island in the afternoon but found no Japs. On a patrol out of Augusta Bay, the l04 had a torpedof right through its bow and come out the other side without exploding - luckely! Hope this is helpful.

Kent, Ron 9 patrolled along Bougainville from Treasury. I believe we patrolled from the southern part, miles below the the PT base
