Topic: Need help modeling canvas spray sheild - aft turret |

Greetings,
My last hurdle in finishing my 109 model is wrapping the aft turret with a spray shield. I'm not quite sure what to do here. I thought about using nylons or similar material since it would be desirable to have it conform somewhat to the depression rails. Here are some photos of the actual shields. Does anyone have any ideas on how I might go about this?

I've used silkspan covered with diluted white glue.

TP and diluted white glue work also. Plus check FINESCALE MODELER magazine. The armor geeks use a variety of methods...

Stan has used TP and diluted white glue on several of my projects. When painted and dried it looks great. The crinkles act like a real canvas. Al I am not sure if you have posted photo's of your boat before, but if not can you take the time to post a few. I would like to see the model............

Will is right I have used TP for years, LOL!!! Seriously, also if you want, you can also use kitchen paper towel, just use less water when diluting the white glue, this will look fine when dry.

The model of 326 was built for her skipper a few years ago. I started with the 1/48 scale kit I developed for BlueJacket in the 1990s and scratch-built the 40mm, 37mm, MK13s, depth charges, radar, etc.,. The skipper's son provided some photos and information he had gotten from his Dad. His Dad got the model just before taking his last patrol and we have a photo at BJ of him and his son looking it over.

I enjoyed seeing the photographs. The boat looks great and I like the look of the Torpedoes and depth charges. I don't think I have ever seen anyone use that type color before. As a rule we generally see the after bodies and depth charges the color of the boat or some lighter shade...............

Dave,
Several ideas, don't know how feasible... 1) regular masking tape (I know at least the non-sticky side holds paint), or 2) a cut piece of an OD green handkerchief, or 3) roll one out of modeling putty, wrap around and press to the limit rail supports & let dry.
Maybe the masking tape and handkerchief ideas could hold sewing thread through them as the securing lines..?
