Greetings all,

Time for some unabashed pre-publication publicity! After 2-1/2 years, my project on the history of MTBSTC: The Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons Training Center is complete. At least my part of it.

The text and photos have been sent to our favorite PT boat book publisher, Nimble Books (Thanks to Frank Andruss and Tim Connelly for the lead), and now the layout can begin and then put into the printing queue.

The book covers the entire history of the base, from its humble beginnings as swampland, through its adolescent years as the training base, up to today as a vibrant public marina and boat building enterprise.

It is chock full of pictures, most of which have never been published before. The pictures cover from before it was a base, through construction, the staff and other commands associated with MTBSTC (RON 4, MTBRTU, the Fuel and Net Depot, and the ships assigned to assist with training), the courses, life at Melville and up through what is at the site today. It also shows many artifacts from MTBSTC.

The chapters are:

Chapter 1 – The Beginning
Chapter 2 – Construction
Chapter 3 –Organization and Staff
Chapter 4 – Training
Chapter 5 – Life at MTBSTC
Chapter 6 – The End

I am excited. It was a thrill to work on.

I will keep you posted on the progress and when it will be available.

Charlie

Let me be the first one to say "GOOD JOB". I have been waiting for you to finish this project for some time, so I am sure it will be a great inside look at the training the men went through. This should be another one of those books that is a must have. By the way, my book is due out this year called "PT BOATS, BEHIND THE SCENES, and like you I look forward to seeing the finished product.
