I am near completion of the PT-157 (model, book & website [www.PT-157.com]. So now to some fine details to finish it out.

I’ve noticed the PT-157 appears not to have had the ‘PT-157’ on the front of the Pilot house in a couple of photos (seen frequently on the web) in the usual white with black shadow lettering. The shadowing is black but the white has been replaced with some darker shade. Any ideas?

Would anyone have a clue as the status and/or whereabouts of the crew (today) of the PT-157?

Thanks,

Bridge

Bridge,
Don't know where Joseph Neumeyer got his info but he used Red for the letters with Black Shadow on the 157 in his diorama. Check out his work here.

Hope this helps.

Gary - Thanks! That is an interesting combination. Hard to tell but looks like the red was on the front 'PT-157' emblem only (maybe to make the cards pop a bit more :-) .
It also looks like he knew the order of the cards in the Aces 'n' Eights hand but again hard to tell.

I hope I can get more some confirming info on this.

My thanks,

Bridge

Found old posting on message board where this very diorama was discussed. Check out http://www.ptboats.org/cgi-local/sitenetbbs/netboardr.cgi?fid=102&cid=101&tid=532&sc=20&pg=1&x=0 Might give you a little more insight.

From the colors photos I've seen red is the most likely color other than white.

Well, I tired calling what I thought was Captain Liebenow's home phone (in NC) but they said I had the wrong number.

I had meet Lt. Liebenow back in 1993 when he was at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts. We spoke for roughly 1 hour that day. I was so happy when he gave me his home phone in Edenton, N. Carolina. We spoke on the phone at least twice a month, with him being so gracious as to send me a letter with an original photo of him while at Melville. I still have that photo.

We lost track a bit, then one day I called him, only to find the number had been disconnected. I only have his last known address, but never did get around to trying to reach him. He was a very nice guy to talk with. I had interviewed him once, but misplaced that interview. He had sent me a two tape interview back in 1995, which I may still have............

I wrote Bud about 12 years ago, he lived in Edenton, NC. He lost his home to Hurricane Isabel in 2003. I believe the 157(Aug 1943) was painted gray and shadowed in black. the dead man's hand was white playing cards. Write me off line and I will give you his current address. Wayne Traxal also made a R/C 1/20 scale 157, maybe he has some additional info on Aces and Eights.
Take care,

What a day!!!

Well with some internet, detective and sales tools I have found both Capt. Liebenow (PT-157) and Welford West (torpedo man on the PT-157 and SPOKE to them both today for about 45-minutes (each). The Aces 'n' Eights logo was put on in Panama by Harry Armstrong (Motor Mac...and now from suffering Alzheimer). Speaking to them both was a fantastic pleasure and they were both helpful however neither could recall the color of the '157' on the front above the emblem but they will think it over and see it they can recall at that moment when they're not thinking about it.

I am sending them a soft-copy of the PT-157 book (WWW.PT-157.com) and they are both very gratified at the continued interest in PT, them and the of course the PT-157 specifically.

I could talk to these guys for hours and probably will at their invitation.

Glad to hear Bud is doing fine! Look at the color video Dick just posted on you tube, in it you will see PT 156 with "Superman" art, PT 159," Aces and Jacks", and PT 160 "Tokyo Ahead" all with Navy Grey and Black shadowed numbers, just as I mentioned in my previous post. These appear to have been all around the cockpit, but not on the stern 20mm pedestal mount.
TAKE CARE,
TED
