Frank, it's too bad that you can't ask a question about a book without somebody turning this into their personal battleground with a competing author and I'm not talking about Dr. Ross. I can not begin to tell you how tired I am of this bickering and how much I wish it would go away. I look forward to visiting the site and learning and it makes me sad when a simple question from the group turns into a shit storm of somebodies personal agenda. Trust me, I'm restraining myself.

The information that Jerry gave you is correct. I think you would like the book.

It saddens me that Dick has put together this great site and it's being abused. If you're listening Dick, I'm sorry for venting. I apologize that I find myself contributing to this juvenile behavior.

Dave

Dave

Thanks for your response. I will purchase the book and see just what it is all about. Sounds as though it could be worth the price.

Ted,

Mr. Doyle gave me a copy of the ON DECK book.

Although, I will probably be haragned for saying this, but I really do think he did a good job on it, although some of the color drawings aren't as good as they could be, but that is just MY PERSONAL opinion.

My 'professional' opinion? It's a VERY GOOD book.

Because it is, I'm sure that his work on my former PT BOATS IN ACTION will be as good if not better ...

Garth,

I agree with you about the 80' Elco ON DECK book. The vintage b & w and current color shots of below-decks is almost worth the price of the book alone.

I also agree with you on the color drawings -- they're pretty good, but no all-green boats, and what happened to the aft twin-.50 turrets on the last two drawings? The rear half of both the gun depression railings disappear, and neither turret has a canvas splash skirt..?

Other than a lot of (what I consider somewhat wasted) color shots of small areas of the reconstructed topsides of PT 617, the book's got some great PT photos I never seen before -- like the iconic one of Elco's famous crane lowering the brand-new PT 103 into their boat basin, and the color ones of PT 132 running at sea.

I have just ordered the book "PT BOATS in ACTION", so when it arrives we shall see how good it is. I am hoping to find many new photos in this book that we have not seen before.

David . . .

No problem, and I might say my sentiment exactly. Thanks for being brave and speaking your mind.
