With the many areas that were set up for the boats in the Pacific, I had wondered if any of them were still in exsistance. I would love to talk with anyone who may have visited these areas and found old relics of the past PT BOAT BASES.
An old dock, maybe a make-shift shed or living quarters. And, how about Base 17. This was by far the largest base ever assembled for the boats. Somewhere, someone must have seen the thousand of parts, engines, and other items just left behind. I had heard that New Packard Engines were bulldozed from the Beach, right into the Jungle at Base 17. Anyone out ther with information or photo's, I would love to see them. I think the biggest problem is , who in thier right mind would take a trip to such bug infested places, and could you even find them. I am sure somewhere there is an old PT Boat Base that was never touched and is frozen in time.

I saw your comment on PT Base 17. I am fairly certain that is where my father was stationed during WW II. Unfortunately he passed away in 1981, but I have two boxes of photographs he took in and around PT Base 17, in and around Tacloban. Some of the pictures have names of men, but he never really stayed in touch with anyone. He was originally going to the Aleutuians with his best friend, but a last minute injury kept him from deploying. His friend's destroyer was sunk in the Pacific, but unbelievably, his friend Jack Ledger was pulled forom the sea after 12 hours! We spent many Sunday's in NJ visiting Jack in the Lyon's VA Hospital until Jack's death in the mid '70's
I always wanted my father to go camping, but he reminded me that he camped enough in the Phillipines for a lifetime!

This discussion makes me wonder if someone or some agency hasn't already pinpointed these bases on maps. It seems that the Navy Dept. must have information about their exact locations. If anyone out there knows where this information might be stored and/or how to obtain it, it would be grand.
My wandering mind even suggests that some travel agent might want to put together a tour of some of the better known bases, such as Biak, Morotai, and that big bay in southeast New Guinea (can't recall the name right now.) Has anyone explored that idea or knows anyone who has made such a trip.
I have a picture my dad took of a base and the note on the back mentions it was taken from University Mountain. Anyone know where that is?
Another picture shows a small volcanic cone shaped island off the bow of the boat with the bow gun in the picture. Where might that be?
Just some meandering thoughts on a rainy, windy day in the Northwest.

P.T. Base 16 was right in the town of Isabella located 20 miles south of Zamboanga P I. Go there and from the dock a half mile radius would be Base 16. All Facilities were within this circle.... Al Moore
