I've added drawings to my site for the deck dead light locations and construction according to the drawings on Dick's ELCO DVD. The drawings for the dead lights include the lights found on the chart house roof hatch, engine hatch, etc and calls them "dead lights" while the lights on the deck are labeled "deck lights". I guess the deck light is a specific type of dead light:

Jeff,

Nice work! Now for the silly question, triplex glass is only impact resistant, I believe it allows light to move in either direction. How did the dead light keep interior light from radiating out of the hull?

Good question Bill. There are blackout blinds mounted underneath. These are pretty simple, a plywood slide with felt strips on top and sides rides in a mahogany channel and is held open / closed with a brass bullet catch. Slide direction is port to starboard but I'm not sure which direction is open and which one closed. The slide is 5/16" x 6 11/16" x 8 7/8". The drawing for these on the DVD is ELCO_Roll_5535-2_72SCAN_00382.pdf.

Forgot to add that I'm not sure what they did about the 122-134 design with the screws sticking out of the bottom. According to the drawing the slide is up against the deck light blocking where the bottom light frame mounts. The drawings application chart lists all boats.

Jeff,

Thanks, I will look at the drawing. Pretty high tech stuff, sliding chunk of plywood with felt seal. But it works.
