Hey Jeff D.-
There is a old controlline club here in Jacksonville Florida called "THE FLYING REBELS" and they fly controlline almost every Saturday at an old Navy airstrip on the westside of the city. I'd love to get back into flying again. I used to fly slow combat and carrier, which was my biggest kick way back then. Controline is making it's way back. What was once old is new again!
I used to fly a old Sterling F4U Corsair with a hot Fox .40. I only flew with MISSLE MIST. It was the best model airplane fuel way back then. I remember my Mom hated when my jeans came to the laundry bin shrinking of Missle Mist. That stuff stuck with you for a few weeks - on your hands, clothes, whatever. Yeah man- those WERE the days!

Frank,
I checked my local high-end hobby shop for the Testor's boats for you last Friday -- sorry, no luck.
Hopefully, they'll reissue them in the future. Other than the rather poorly-realized twin-.50 turrets/guns, lack of gun depression rails and "ring" detail on the torpedo tubes, they're pretty accurate and could be built into really nice-looking models by a skilled modeler...
I can envision a neat-looking Tulagi, Rendova, or New Guinea-era diorama of a "nest" of them, done up in the different-shades of solid grays and greens of the early days (and maybe the muted zebra-stripes, too Frank R.)...

Although right in the middle of the PT-374 project, I have been looking ahead to my next project. I have three things in my head:
1. Scratch built 1/48 scale PT-10
2. Testors PT's along side a Tender
3. Testors PT's along side a Destroyer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, as the PT-374 project is the most important item on my plate, I just love the idea of two PT BOATS tied up to a destroyer begging food. At 51/4 inches long, I think the Destroyer might be something like 20 inches long. These Testors Kits claim to be 1/200 scale, but I think that is incorrect. If I can secure a few of them, I can invision this project. Now, along those lines, I never had PT-10 in my Exhibit, except for photographs. Stan Pienkowski will scratch build one for me at some point, so I have to decide. But right now, I am too excited about our 374 project, which continues to move forward. I hope to have a few more photo's for you guys in short order.............

I think I've read somewhere the Testor's kits actually scale out to about 1/176th....

I think its more like 1/84 or some crazy thing like that. I see there is one on EBAY for sale. I will try to obtain this one for my future project and keep my eyes open. If you guys find any, please let me know, also I need an American Destroyer that will match up to these boats. I have no clue if there are any around............

If the model is 5.25" long, then it is in approximately 1/180 scale (80/180*12=5.28). the closest standard ship model scale to this is 1/192 (1/16"=1'). Iron Shipwright did/does offer a resin FLETCHER in this scale. BlueJacket offers wooden FLETCHER (square bridge) and JOHN C. BUTLER (DE339) class kits in this scale.

The model is more like 1/187 scale. The box says 1/200, and the directions are different as well. I think the boat is roughly 5/78 long...................

If you are really in a pinch, you might consider vacuum forming them using one of your kits as a master. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I would not be interested in vaccum forming the Kit, but just out of curiosity, has anyone of the board made this kit, or upgraded it. I would like to see it if you did...........
