This is a question for all of the WWII PT boaters. If you can remember, during WWII, did you refer to the executive officer as the "Exec" or as the "XO"? Nowadays, at least when I was in, it was the XO, but was wondering if that is a "modern" term.

On our boat and as far as I know throughout the squadron, we used "Exec". I never heard the expression "XO" until well after the war.

Spoke to a couple of my PT BOAT friends about your Question. They too said they called him the Exec of the boat, although when speaking to him directly it was Mr. so and so, and of course the guy in charge was the Skipper.............
