During my initial research for my Oyster Bay - Letye Gulf diorama, the first reference that I came across was the list of the 13 PT Boat Sections that were created (3 boats each) for the patrol of the Surigao Strait.

My goal was to determine which of these boats were tended to by the Oyster Bay at this time. I finally deduced via a process of elimination and cross-referencing and found later found confirmation that Ron 33 was tended by the Oyster Bay, then.

In the list of the PT Boat Sections, PT-488 and PT-496 aren't listed, but were members of Ron 33 at Leyte, so I initially omitted these two boats from the list of those to be in my diorama.

I will now include them, but can anyone explain their omission from the Section list?

Carl;
What section list are you talking about? Maybe these two boats were delegated to protecting the tender.
take care,
Ted

Here is a link to an online book which is one of the references that I have seen regarding the Section list.

Hi Carl,

45 boats (including the Squadron 33 boats) arrived at Leyte from Mios Woendi. Six of those boats did not participate in the Surigao Strait action because of engine problems or other issues "in consequence of their long voyage." I assume PT's 488 and 496 were among those six that were out of action.

All the best,
Gene Kirkland

Garth,

Your web site has been a wealth of information, for me, in my USS Oyster Bay diormama. I am most grateful to you, even if you haven't replied to my emails from several months ago. And that's not a big issue, with me, for I have since found the answers to the questions that I had asked of you in the emails.

I haven't replied?

That's strange, as that if I get an email, I'll respond straight away.

Try it again Carl.
